VLC and the dreambox things you need:
1] dreambox
2] pc on which the required software will run steps on the pc:
1] download vlc_stream.net.exe (attached to this post). You would need vlc to be installed --> download here you would also need microsoft .net 1.1 installed on your pc --> download here
2] make the following settings (on vlc_stream):
dreambox ip:
--> put in the ip of your db dreambox port:
--> put in the port (typically 80) username: root password: dreambox check the transcode box (once you do this, you will not get any video or audio on this pc) choose the transcode tab now output method:
http ip: leave it empty for now port: use any port that you want, for example 55555 (this is the port that the remote vlc will connect to) encapsulation: asf video codec: div3 video bitrate: 256 scale: 0.5 audio codec: mp3 audio bitrate: 64 channels:
2 enable caching if you like and put in like 3000 ms click on channel list and your favorites should have loaded up now.
Choose the channel that you would like to view.
Go back to the stream menu and click on stream.
This should open up vlc.
Settings on your router:
1] login to your router
2] go to the port forwarding menu
3] forward port (the one that you choose earlier, 55555) to the ip of the pc where the software is running thats it, all the required settings on the pc are done.
To view the stream on a remote pc:
1] open vlc
2] file --> open network stream
3] choose http
4] enter the external ip address of your router with the port that you choose earlier (55555), as in, xxx:xxx:xxx:xxx:55555
5] check the cache checkbox
6] click ok
7] you should have the stream playing now :-)
